Background
The proportion of women in science and engineering fields in Japan is at an extremely low level compared to other countries, and bridging the gender gap in science and technology fields is an issue. NICT has set Goal 4 of the General business owner action plan based on the Act on Promotion of Women’s Participation and Advancement in the Workplace as "Increase the proportion of women to 20% or more of the total number of people hired for Permanent Researcher/Research Engineer positions", and actively recruits female researchers and research engineers as stipulated in Article 8 of the Equal Employment Opportunity Law (Special Provisions Concerning Measures Concerning Female Workers).
Last year, for the first time, we held an open recruitment for women for Permanent Researcher/ Researcher (Tenure-Track)/ Permanent Research Engineer positions for FY2024. As a result, women accounted for 41.7% of the total number of people hired for Permanent Researcher position achieved.
